For months‚ Jon made plans about how he would ask Genelle to marry him․ He eventually popped the question at Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando․ I was there to photograph the surprise proposal from the moment Genelle realized what was happening and on through their celebration with family․
Jon said that he envisioned this giant heart‚ a path of candles‚ and the fountain at Lake Eola turned on in the distance․ He imagined that their family would watch from afar and see the proposal but would not realize the plan until it actually happened․ He’d put so much thought into what Genelle would see when she got there․ The whole space was like a love letter she could walk right into․
So‚ we got there early that day and pulled all of that together․ We set the heart up and laid out the candlelit path‚ with the fountain behind it․ With Jon’s family in a nearby location ready to capture her reaction on their phones‚ Genelle’s months of planning came to fruition․
She had no idea what was waiting for her․ Getting to photograph her surprise as she realized what Jon had arranged was such a special part of the day․ Now all the things he had convinced himself about over the last several months were right there in front of him‚ with the man she loved asking her if they could spend their lives together‚ and of course she said yes․
Then their family came over to celebrate‚ which was hugs‚ happy tears and even cheers. I just kept shooting as people surrounded Jon and Genelle․ Those moments after the proposal deserve to be remembered‚ too‚ the hugs‚ the faces‚ so full of excitement‚ the celebration between us before it hit us what had just happened․
That’s one of my favorite things about proposals‚ you set the scene with the planning‚ and then people give you the moments that you remember․ For Jon and Genelle‚ every time they look at the pictures that were taken‚ it will not just be the beautiful setup beside the lake‚ but the fact that their family was there with them‚ at the beginning of their engagement․
Jon and Genelle‚ thank you for letting me be a part of this special day in your lives and for trusting my vision․ What an incredible thing to be a part of․ Congratulations!
